Design: an Urban Block

Roma: a neo Neighbourhood

In Collaboration with Margaret Milewski.

Nodes. Cores. Pores. Threshold.

Potential cores within Rome’s city centre are analysed for conceivable developments to alleviate the city’s high student and multi-family housing demand. A core is designed for the neighbourhood with commercial and residential lots that would create jobs and intricate spaces allocated for the public, with a central piazza that  would act  as a nodal attractor for tourists and locals alike.

Glass wraps around the structure, proving porous for the public to permeably flow throughout the structural block. “All roads lead to Rome,” from Mazzini bridge, this core serves as a first glympse into the in and outs of central Rome. But, the idiom says it all: the neo neighbourhood, a threshold to Roma.

Mega Experiment Initiative

Shapes, Layering, Volumetric, Façade and Material explorations.

An exploration of a design concept for a public library, inspired by the Metropol Parasol in Seville, Spain, with an emphasis on porosity. The intervention site is located in Charleston, South Carolina. The concept of such experimental design comes from the idea of movement of two vastly different mediums colliding with each other. The experimentation follows the orthogonal façade colliding with the main ribbed skin. The library’s program is contained within the interior, with the ribs acting as a secondary façade, not only enabling light to penetrate, but patrons at specific entries.

Cascading Corner

Weave, Overlay, Wrap.

Façade study used within a proposed intervention of the Hippodrome State Theater of Gainesville, Florida.

The intervention comprises of a performance space for multi-cultural artistic shows, an art gallery and a snack bar. All intended occupiable spaces are represented by tainted glycerin. The weaved facade wraps around the intervention as well as lets wind perforate through the cornered space.

Vertical Investigations

Expansion in Locomotion

Vertical space; datum.

Moments of intensity captivating external light qualities that bleed, primarily in ascensions, with tipping remnants turning at the culminating point, thus absorbing and expanding light to a lower node, creating that vertical beam that embraces the transparency and reflectivity of plexiglass and maps itself onto the datum.

Intricate details from the mapping expose the transitional spaces taking part in an uninterrupted locomotive action that vertically expands throughout a trio of distinct and anticipatory viewing spaces. The vertical locomotive progression is inspired by the German city’s skytrain in Wupertal’s historic centre.
